What is the difference between granulating and sandblasting?

Granulating (also called gritty) is texture that is built into the mold. It is available in 12 different patterns, and since it is part of the die, it needs to be used for either all or none of your coins.

Sandblasting is similar in effect to granulating #1, but is done after the coin is made and is not part of the die. This means that you can have sandblasting added to just some of your coins, if you like. Sandblasting is useful in creating some contrast on coins that are entirely metal, such as this one.
